BIG BROTHER – 8/31/12

Let me say something about apps like Draw Something and the like. I’ve never understood them all that much. I know they’re just a game to help people waste time when they’re bored or whatever, but I still don’t get what the big draw is (pardon the pun). You draw something on your phone and wait for people to guess whether it’s right or not? That’s fun? Again, I can understand why some people would find it fun, but not to the extent of how all these people were going nuts over it the way they were. I mean, 50 million people downloaded it in 50 days. The people who “designed” the game basically stole the idea from pictionary and are now retired in some country we’ve never heard of before, sitting on some beach with colored sand our eyes have never seen before, banging supermodels that aren’t even real human beings. Maybe I just take issue with things that become popular so quickly, but I’ve never really been the sit-down, and play games type of person, so maybe that’s why I don’t understand it. People probably don’t understand how I can sit on the couch and watch 5 movies all in a row, on my days off from work. People probably consider that a huge waste of time the same I do to sit down and draw a bench on your cell phone and send it to some stranger hoping they score you some points or something, so you can improve your ranking or however the hell the game works!! Besides, isn’t Big Brother a little behind on this trend? Hasn’t there been about 15 other apps that have come out that have made people forget about Draw Something? Do people even play that game anymore?

Anyway, I digress.

And, don’t get me started on Frank getting himself eliminated! Nothing about that seemed odd to anybody? Scripted at all? I just don’t get why he would do that. Even if Britney didn’t know it, answered wrong, he already knew it and could ring in next and answer it. Yes, there was a risk that Dan could have beaten him to ringing in, but that’s just the game. He had to have known that was a rule (or perhaps it wasn’t told to them and only told to us because they wanted us to believe they already knew the rules). It doesn’t make any sense to me why he would do that. I know people believe it doesn’t matter because Dan didn’t end up winning anyway, but had Frank won, there was probably zero chance he was going to change the nominations. I know production still could have made Ian use his, but I’m just not sure they would get him to. I don’t know, I may be too much of a conspiracy theorist at this point, but just nothing smells right about all that. None of it makes any sense. The whole Pandora’s Box and second veto already wreaked enough of trying to save Dan’s @ss in the game, but then this goes and happens and I just can’t believe they aren’t behind it all.

Jenn ends up providing the shock of the season by winning the Veto competition and gives us the whole speech about how she wants to keep nominations the same because she is now teamed up with Frank, and wants Dan out just like Frank does. Just for episodic harmony, her and Carrot Top have another discussion about how Dan is going home and how they’ll bring Danielle into their alliance since they are saving her this week. Maybe had I not already known what happens, I may have believed her. Um, no, I probably wouldn’t have.

Also, one other note I’d add about that Veto competition is that I think the 11 point question should have had something to do with not being able to play in the next HOH competition. I know being on slop the rest of the summer is a big punishment, but not being able to play in an HOH competition is a form of suicide sometimes, in the Big Brother house. I do believe that should have been the final punishment. Maybe even the next two HOH competitions, just to make it extra tough to take.

After Dan comes out of his 24-hour dance party punishment, he acts all strange and asks to have a house meeting. He starts off by letting the tears stream down his face and says that this is his Big Brother Funeral. Right at that point, I probably would have walked out because no way in any way, shape, or form am I going to believe any of the next words that come out of his mouth are truly sincere and not just a way to save his @ss in the game. Sure, he said some nice things and all, but the man is just too sly to believe. For people who don’t believe any words coming out of anyone’s mouth inside this house, for them to take him that seriously (and for Shane to even be crying – what the hell is that all about – Captain America, my @ss) is a joke. He ends his speech by telling Danielle that she is dead to him in this game and that she knows what she did and that he will be friends with her outside of this house, but as far as the game goes, she’s dead and he doesn’t want to talk to her anymore. Again, I say, just the fact that right after he left they started talking about how he had 24 hours to figure a way out and that was probably it should tell them that they can’t believe a word he said.

And, in the next scene is where I realized two things about Dan. First, was what I said earlier about how I wish I didn’t think the Production staff interfered as much as I do believe they do. Because, if I didn’t, I would consider this move (and what he was about to say to Frank) as one of the greatest moves in Big Brother history. But, I just can’t give Dan that much credit. I just can’t. The fact that he was alone for 24 hours just shrieks producers feeding him ideas on how to get himself out of this jam. Second, I believe the reason I dislike Dan so much is that he is me. Take away the strapping good looks and amazing physical achievements, I would be exactly like Dan in this game. I wouldn’t lose on purpose in every competition like he does, but his gift is my gift, and that is the gift of manipulation through words. Unlike Dan’s belief that he could sell ice to eskimos (everyone needs ice, it’s not like when it’s winter here in Chicago, I can just walk outside and snap off some ice from the backyard fence and use that in my soda – just like how the eskimos probably don’t use the ice they walk on for their drinks, therefore still needing to buy ice), I believe I could talk my way into having people believe I painted the Mona Lisa. If he truly did devise this plan on his own, bravo to the man and I can give him his due reward of my respect. But, still, I wish with every fiber in my being that he does not win this game because I still believe he doesn’t do much of anything, and is just a glorified floater.

  1. Another great recap, Scott.
I, too, think BB production is far too involved in the game. Wish they’d just butt out and let the houseguests play it out.
When Dan was in Frank’s HOH room outing Ian as the double-agent and orchestrating his own post-funeral resurrection, I swear I could hear Boogie screaming, “DON’T DO IT FRANK!! DON’T DO IT!”
The best/funniest part of the show for me was when Dan was explaining his actions to Danielle in the arcade room: Danielle’s look of total gobsmackedness (ok, I made up that word), with her forehead deeply wrinkled, actually made her look like a Klingon! I couldn’t stop laughing.
I disagree with you, Scott. I don’t think Dan will win (well, MAYBE if he’s up against Joe or Jenn). The jury isn’t going to reward someone who not only manipulated every single one of them, but also has won in the past – not if they can muster any sympathy for whoever sits with Dan at final two (if Dan even gets there).
I’ve actually enjoyed the last couple of BB episodes – it’s finally getting down and dirty. Now, if Production can keep their hands off the game, we might be in for a treat when alliances will have to be broken for good and it’s every houseguest for him/herself.

  2. Another great recap:0)

Totally off-topic, but have you taken a look at the new cast for Survivor: Philippines? Any thoughts? I’m looking forward to the new season.

  3. Maybe I’m weird, but I still think that some people would vote for the person who played the best game once they got to the final 2, no matter if they won before or not. I will say this, even though I hate him, if Dan makes it to the final 2, he deserves to win this game. Hands down. And, the people in the jury house, who have nothing else to do except think about that fact, will probably agree with me, and he will win. Trust me on that. If he doesn’t, it’s because he’s sitting next to Frank. And, there is exactly NOOOOOO chance Frank makes it to the end. He put all his eggs in the Dan basket, which was the stupidest mistake he could have made.

As for the Survivor question, I have seen the cast and cast picture and am thinking this is the best looking cast of females the show has ever had! 🙂 As for Jeff Kent and the girl from whatever show it was, I don’t like it. They don’t need to be on the show. As for the three returning players, I remember that Jonathan Penner guy being annoying, other than that I don’t think they needed to bring back these three players…

  4. I have realized that I am not a fan of putting someone up when they had no chance to fight for themselves. I mean, Britney COULD have won veto, but she wasn’t nominated at that point, and I just don’t like it. I know it’s part of the game, but I think these people change their minds TOO FREAKING MUCH!

I am so against Dan. I never liked him, but really dislike him now. The way she acted toward Britney after she was nomiated was so rude and selfish. It’s not like he had to out the alliance he just made, but saying sorry would be nice. Yeah it’s a game where you win tons of money and are out for yourself, but I just feel like I would at least be respectful enough to be like “Sorry you got in the way of the end goal,” or something. I am also really disappointed in Shane’s vote. Shane, Joe, and Ian should have stuck together with Britney and been the Fab Four (Juggles is not “fab,” but eh).

I still hope Ian wins. I was cracking up when he was fighting with Frank and Frank goes “Can you please just go?” And Ian goes “Thanks, I will” or something along those lines. He cracks me up. Plus, can Frank realize Ian needed to split away from him and Boogie…he was always going to be third in that alliance, and that’s not getting you anywhere.

Also, Jenn may be smart to align with Frank, but stupid to take Dan off the block. She is not going to win this game (unless MAYBE F2 with Joe), so just give it up already!
