Every season, my absolute favorite DR sessions are the ones that are so obviously scripted by production. It’s the one time I truly feel as if these people aren’t all actors paid to be on this show because they deliver the lines so poorly and robotic, which is how people tend to sound when they’re reading off someone else’s words. But, we get one of those DR sessions from Becky right before the Veto competition begins with her “Audrey wasn’t chosen for POV so me and Shelli can still backdoor her.” It went something like that, but you know what I’m saying. If you listen to them when they’re talking and then hear these type of DR sessions, it’s just funny to me is all. I like laughing at things.
My absolute worst DR sessions are any involving John. Good goodness, please tell him to start imitating someone other than Bobcat Golthwait. I hear him talking to people in the house and he doesn’t sound like the creepy, half-drunk, half-dead frog he sounds like in the DR. Please put an end to this, CBS. Please.
At the actual Veto competition, John wipes the floor with the rest of the houseguests. The whole time I was watching the comp, I wasn’t understanding what was going on. Typically, in the choose-your-opponent Veto comps, you choose to go up against the people on the block so that they don’t win, but nobody was doing that. At least John understood this and chose to go up against Da’Vonne to do his best to make sure she didn’t win. But why Clay chose Steve, I didn’t really get. And he was saying he wanted to win the Veto so that he could keep the nominations the same, too. So wouldn’t that make more sense then to just go up against John since Da’Vonne was already out? If you knock out John, it’s over and neither nominee can win, so the nominations would most likely stay the same. I guess that small-town education just didn’t pay off in the end for the little buckaroo. Meg seems clueless about how Big Brother works, so her choosing Shelli I can understand more. She was also trying to throw the comp, so I can live with her not picking John. I guess. Just seemed odd to me is all.
But like I said, John wins and we all know he’s going to use it on himself and leave Shelli with the decision on who to put up as another pawn in her game to get Da’Vonne out.
Or will John use it on himself? Shelli and Clay have the bright idea to try and dissuade John from using the Power of Veto. Really, you two?!? Do you not watch the show at all? You asked him to go up as a pawn, throw the Battle of the Block, and now want to ask him to stay on the block even though he won Veto and can be safe for the week? Why would anyone do that? And all that talk Clay was spouting out of his stupid mouth about how he’d go home before John did means absolutely nothing because guess what Clay, John’s on the block and if the votes went towards him, how would you be able to go home before him? Would you stop the show and tell production to send you home instead of John? Ugh, these two really have the classic power trip we see in Big Brother a lot. They get HoH so early in the season and then think they’re running the entire show the rest of the way. Don’t they remember that asian outdoorsman, James? I mean, does anyone remember him now? Yeah, he won just last week, had all that power in the house and now look at him. He doesn’t have anything anymore. They need to take a chill pill, realize that they can’t be asking people to do stupid stuff like that to benefit someone else’s game because all that’s going to do is get people to start thinking they’re too powerful or they can’t be trusted, or that they just flat out don’t like them anymore. Take a deep breath, Shay. In and out a few times. Cuddle it out of your systems. I have a feeling that one of Shay may be exiting the house sooner than they’d like to be.
After that atrocious idea of wanting to ask John not to use the Veto on himself, Shelli and Clay redeem themselves a little and come up with the great idea to inform Becky that if John is going to use the Veto on himself and they’re going to have to nominate someone in his place, they’re not going to be nominating who they originally agreed to (Audrey). This way, Becky won’t be blindsided by the betrayal and won’t have to spend time plotting against Shelli and Clay for not being aligned with her game. Becky understands their reasoning and seems to be ok with the idea of getting Da’Vonne out this week and with the house still being fully against Audrey, she’ll still be an easy target to get out next week. But, we all know how Big Brother works, and if you don’t take the opportunity to get the main agitator out the week they’re the main agitator, someone else can easily pop up the next week as an agitator (a la Da’Vonne) and put themselves ahead of the original planned evictee. Anything can happen from week to week and people will most definitely get into fights, so before we know it, Audrey might find herself in power at some point and completely turn the game around for herself.
Outside of Becky, another person to be on the lookout for is Vanessa. She’s flying so under the radar that she’s never going to be mentioned as someone to nominate/evict, and she seems like an incredibly intelligent and strategic thinker, so her approaching Shelli and detailing to her who she should and shouldn’t nominate as a replacement for John only spoke more to the game she’s capable of playing. I’m sure she’s not the only one who had conversations like that this week, but she seems to truly understand what will get her further in this game. And, so many others have proven that you don’t need to win a lot of competitions to make it to the end of Big Brother (unlike in Survivor), so if she continues playing strategically and putting the right information in the right people’s ears and staying out of the drama, I can see her taking herself far. Although, she may want to step up her social game a tad bit, as well as make herself at least seem like a threat in some comps so that she doesn’t get tagged with the term of death in this game and be seen as a “floater.” If someone gets tagged as a floater by everyone in the house, chances are unlikely they’ll vote for that person to win the entire game. But hey, second place still wins money! In the end, she tells Shelli that it might be smartest to nominate Meg. And I’m assuming she also brought up Liz. She definitely said it needs to be a girl, and I’m sure she didn’t say she would go up, but it needed to be a girl who wasn’t seen as a threat. Jackie would obviously be the smart choice, but Shelli nixed that idea quick because she didn’t want to be the mean girl and make Jackie go through being on the block again after she went through it last week.
So, after having that talk about who to nominate if John DOES use the Veto, Shay talk to John about NOT using the Veto. Basically, John shut that idea down. Or at least he did in the DR, not so sure if he ever said no to their face. Clay was giving him every opportunity to say no by telling him he can say no if he’s uncomfortable with the idea, but they’d rather him go along with it. The fact that these two even thought for a second he’d go along with this was ridiculous. Clay keeps saying “You can just say no.” And we get an emphatic “NO” from John in the DR. Again, not sure if he said that to their face, but I’m assuming he did let them know that he was leaning more towards using it than not.
I’m assuming that Shelli and Clay knew John was going to use it, because after that she approached Liz, with Austin in the room as well, and let her know that she may have to go up in place of John. And, like the rest of the people in this house, she ended the conversation with “Don’t tell anyone about this.” Geez, I’m not understanding these people. Why bother even saying that when you know damn well they’re going to run to at least one other person and mention it. And if they don’t tell another person, the person they told will tell someone else, who will tell someone else, and before you know it, everyone knows. These people have to be the least secretive people alive, but yet still get upset with Audrey for running her mouth to everyone in the house. I’ll admit that Audrey is playing like a loose cannon with how she’s trying to pit people against each other, but she’s only doing what everyone else is doing, too, so they can’t be too upset about it. But, the amount of times we’ve heard from these people about how they don’t want someone to tell anyone else what they just said is amazing. I think these people should just conduct all conversations in house meeting settings. Just lay it all out there and discuss amongst each other what’s best.
After Austin’s main homie in the house (Liz…or is it Julia??) is being targeted as a replacement nominee, he comes up with a brilliant plan to plant a seed in Shelli’s head about the house flipping on her and Clay and voting out Liz instead of Da’Vonne. He tells them that at 5 in the morning, he overheard Meg, Jeff, James, and Jason having a conversation in their bed about flipping the votes to keep Da’Vonne. So, he mentions the idea of making Meg the replacement nominee so that Da’Vonne is now on the block with someone she’s affiliated with, making it harder for the likes of Jeff, James, and Jason to vote her out to keep Da’Vonne. Slick move here by Austin, and probably the smartest idea for who the replacement nominee should be. It fits with the idea Vanessa and her spoke about with it being a woman to ensure that votes don’t sway towards getting a guy out, and fits with it being someone who isn’t seen as a threat whatsoever, meaning the house will still want to vote out the instigator Da’Vonne and not the sweet, wholesome Meg.
And what kind of an episode would it be without an Audrey being Audrey (crazy) moment?!? So, she’s at the complete bottom of the house, everyone is against her, trying to get her out, nobody is talking to her, and here’s Clay talking to her, telling her that he wants to work with her, and that he and Shelli are going to save her this week as long as she agrees to work with them the rest of the way. And so what does Audrey do? She gets confrontational with him. She tells him that she doesn’t appreciate the way he’s talking to her and even gets upset with him when he tells her the truth and that nobody wants to work with her. She needs to get her sh*t together. Why would you start an argument with the one person who is showing he’s on your side? I’m not even sure she’s crazy anymore, just stupid perhaps. At least Big Brother stupid. I’m sure she’s an intelligent person in her own rights, but in this game she really is stupid. But, I still feel as if she’ll be around a little while longer. Everyone always likes to keep the main target in the house around to help keep the target off of them. The one part of the conversation I did get a chuckle out of, though, was when she asked Clay “Who do you want to get out? I would recommend not me.” No sh!t?!? You don’t want to get voted out? What a shock. It was a little odd that she didn’t let out a chuckle or even a smile after saying it. Like she was being serious and thinking she really needed to tell Clay she didn’t want to get voted out or something. Good stuff, Audrey. I actually hope they do keep you around a little while longer. You make my job more fun.
And, of course we end the episode in the least dramatic way, with John using the Veto on himself and Shelli crying to the house about how she hates having to do this, but puts up Meg in John’s place. So, after seeing that Da’Vonne definitely feels less confident about her chances at staying, but she’ll definitely try her best to stay in the game. It’s going to be an uphill battle, but crazier things have happened. I’m sure production made it so that Da’Vonne won the Last Laugh and gets to choose the 3 people who don’t get to vote her out this week, but will that be enough to keep her in the house? I don’t think it will, but who knows. I guess we’ll all find out together…
THANK YOU for calling out Da’Vonne on her BS reason for why they voted her out instead of Audrey! I don’t see really anyone else doing this. Does Da’Vonne not remember when she turned her back on the original all girl alliance with the fast-forward twist by picking Liz??? That’s what pissed Shelli off to begin with and Da’Vonne’s drama that continued on after that just made her more of a target.
Are you sure we aren’t related? 🙂 I’m a Boston sports HATER, too and feel I had such an “ewwwwwwwwww” moment when I heard “Super Bowl Winner”, but then was able to sigh a tiny bit when “Rob Gronk—-” followed. I don’t care for Gronk, but I really don’t care for the other guy. As Bachelorette guys “Alf” said to “Peter Brady”, “I don’t even want to say his name”. Thanks for the recap. Nicely done.
Wondering if John has a hearing problem and talks loudly as a result. Jason – get rid of the collar jewelry. Austin’s green twisting tattoos make him look like he is turning into Swamp Thing. Audrey reminds me of young party girls I have seen over the years at work. Dressed up and made up half the time and then showing up without makeup or showering and looking like they were out drinking half the night and woke up in a strange place, grabbed clothes they found around them, and came in. Clay sometimes look like the son of Vanilla Ice and Zach from Saved by the Bell. I knew Davonne was going home when I saw her outfit vs Meg’s. Not sure why she didn’t take away Clay’s vote. Wow, this is purely a superficial post so I will end it by saying that Jackie’s sky high heels and tight short skirt made her my mvp for the night.
I hear that about True Detective season 2. I just cannot take Vince Vaughn seriously. I think it’s because his style of humour is to have that serious face and somewhat serious words, and then saying funny one-liners. So while he’s saying all kinds of serious stuff, I keep waiting for the punch-line. It’s like all he’s been doing is setting up jokes but never delivering punch-lines. It’s killing me, I can’t get over it. Colin Farrell is decent. But overall, just not living up to season 1 with Woody and Matthew’s performances. I’ve been trying to forget and judge this one separately, but it is difficult to forget.
You’re welcome, jmwilt77. Da’Vonne seemed like a nice enough person, but just one of those strong-mouthed people that never can hold it in when they really need to. I can’t hate on her for that, because I think I’d struggle with the same thing in the house. However, I’d also know if I ever did get voted out, it would be because of my own doing, not because someone is a transgender.
@auntsam, as much as I want to call that Shawn/Sean guy a baby for how he’s acting, I think I can relate to him. It would be extremely difficult for me to be dating a girl while knowing she was sleeping with another guy that I HAAAAAAAAATE. I’d probably not want to say his name, either. 🙂
@jman123, Jackie’s body can be my MVP, too. Her face, not so much. Same with Liz – she’s pretty and all, but it’s her body that sells it. I think that’s the story for all the girls in the house for me. I’m not attracted to any of their faces, but they do have nice bodies. So I can understand where Jeff is coming from, HOWEVER, he’s taking it a bit too far…
@Cndgirl, I’m not ready to say that I dislike season 2 just yet, but I AM ready to say it won’t even come close to being as good as the first one. And that’s saying something because the first one ended so terribly and also had an episode or two in the middle that were kinda slow and boring. So, there’s still hope for this season, but I agree that Vince Vaughn, along with the story, are the major issues in the show for me. It’s just eh right now.
Ha, I just read the story about Jeff’s “alleged masturbation” on Julia. “Important” update at the end of the article says that the stain was on her before.
Vanessa seems to be stealing Derrick’s winning grunge look from last season.
