I had the incredibly distinct honor and privilege of “sitting down” with one of the most well-liked Big Brother contestants in the history of the show. As a member of Team America, he sliced and diced his way through the competition earning himself the $500,000 first place prize last season. Your favorite, my favorite, your mom’s favorite, ladies and gentleman, I give you the one and only Derrick Levasseur. And yes, he’s as kind and genuine as you’d expect.
I tried to think of some great questions to ask him and hope I did my readers proud. If you don’t already, go follow Derrick on Twitter (@DerrickL) as he does some cool stuff and is the current Social Media Ambassador for this season of Big Brother.
Q. Chill Town vs. The Hitmen. Which alliance goes down as the greatest in Big Brother history?
Derrick: I am in contact with both Will and Boogie and they’re both great guys and had a great alliance on two different seasons. I will say that I wish Cody and I had the opportunity to do a joint DR session like Chill Town but with the game being as advanced as it is now, it would have raised too many red flags with the houseguests.
I am extremely proud of what Cody and I accomplished in linking-up on day two and making it to the final two together without anyone really ever knowing how close we were. We worked together on a lot together and won key competitions at the end. More importantly, I am happy about the relationship we now have because of the show.
Q. Was there any point during the game where you knew you were going to win?
Derrick: Didn’t know I was going to win but I knew I would be in the final two once Frankie was evicted because the remaining people would take me.
Q. Was there one person that went out early in the game (say, pre-final 5) that you believe might have given you trouble winning had they stayed?
Derrick: Hayden was extremely smart, athletic, and well-liked. He was a good player but I really don’t know how his jury management strategies would have been implemented because he went so early. Obviously jury management is key.
Q. Do your buddies on the force give you crap about being on Big Brother (even though you won)?
Derrick: Haha. Not really. They just gave me the nickname, “Hollywood”. I think if I would have lost, it would have been bad.
Q. Who was the most difficult person to live with in the house, and why?
Derrick: Obviously it’s always difficult living with random people who have their own routines. We were all pretty messy. It was not easy in there.
Q. What was your favorite slop recipe? And what does slop really taste like?
Derrick: I actually really liked slop with chocolate protein/milk. Throw in a ton of sugar and your good to go!
Q. With paranoia running rampant in the house, what was the craziest rumor/story (personal or in regards to game play) you heard while in the house about another houseguest?
Derrick: There wasn’t many but at one point, Christine made up a rumor about Victoria and Hayden making out. That had a little play in the house for a while but it died out when Nicole didn’t buy it.
Q. As a fan of the show, I’m sure you’re watching this season. Who are your early favorites and who do you see having the right strategy so far?
Derrick: Well obviously Vanessa has the tools but her social game seems to be slacking at this point. I think John is in a good position because I don’t hear many people talking about him in the house. That’s a good thing this early in the game!
Q. Any that you feel are going to crash and burn, basically losing the game for themselves?
Derrick: Unfortunately Audrey may be on this path if she doesn’t change it up fast.
Q. Does watching the show make you nostalgic and make you feel like you want to do it all over again?
Derrick: Of course. It’s like college. You can’t wait to get out of there but once you do, you start to miss the little things. However, I think after a week or two, I’d be climbing the walls…Haha!
Q. Do you think you can have a set strategy going into the house and stick to it or is it better to have a basic strategy and adjust according to your competition?
Derrick: Just have a basic approach. Find out the format of the game and then adapt.
Q. Can you talk casting into letting me on the show? Or at least sneak me into a reunion or finale party? (Just kidding – but since we’re bringing up personal favors, I do expect to use you as a reference to get out of my next speeding ticket!!) 🙂
Derrick: Haha…Let me know how that works out for you.
Wow! So awesome that you were able to interview Derrick! He seems like such a genuine guy. I was so glad he won last season. Wish he could get you in the house, now that’d be cool! Have you applied before?
